Mom, My Pants are Too Small Aug 31, 2024

Dear Hope,
Has anyone seen a child who is in a growth spurt such that the poor kid seems to be wearing high waters all the time!? It's like the height comes faster than Amazon can deliver the next right size! (Thankfully Van wears shorts in all seasons, or it would definitely appear we aren't getting him pants that fit!)

That is a good metaphor for our congregation right now. We have more great opportunities and needs for ministry and community engagement than we've ever had, while our structure is a size or two behind. Thankfully it's all of you - so a small staff and bare bones budget has not stopped us from going for it. This academic year, we are reviving a youth ministry and launching a young adult ministry! Both are dependent on volunteers and individuals' generosity. However, there is not a shortage of great youth or young adults, a gift to any congregation!

Sunday September 8th (not tomorrow) we are hosting a Youth Potluck for interested junior and senior high families and any interested volunteers. We have started offering youth group from 11-noon on Sunday mornings, and 7:30-9:00 on Sunday evenings (no Sunday evening tomorrow, Labor Day weekend).

We started our Young Adult Ministry with a fun cookout in my backyard, and have planned monthly meetups! Next up is Chili at the Gaffs (who live right by ISU) on September 22nd
Do you wish you had a group or activity? Likely you are not alone. Let me know so we can see if others are interested in your idea. And don't be shy if you want to volunteer with our junior and senior high students! Some can only do once/month, so it is helpful to build a team for both the a.m. and p.m. opportunities!

Church on Labor Day Weekend:
All of our Sunday morning activities are still in full swing - worship, Hope Kids and Hope Youth! We will not offer Sunday evening youth or Monday evening Bible Study.

Remember if you are out of town, you can still worship online!

Tomorrow I get to dive into the book-turned-movie It Ends With Us. We'll talk about the unintended impact of unhealthy family systems moving from one generation to the next. This is not a new phenomenon, it's a subtheme throughout the Hebrew Scriptures, and addressed in the healing Jesus offers individuals in the New Testament.
