The Weary World Rejoices
Dear Hope Friends and Family,
All day yesterday I felt like I was missing something, there was so much time to just be with family! Clergy are used to one-day weekends which part of why Thanksgiving weekend is so fun! Ryan and I took the kids to see Moana 2 in a packed theater. (It was fine, but does not have the music of Lin Manuel Miranda and is not necessary viewing if you don't have a young kid.)
Thanksgiving weekend also means the start of my favorite church season: Advent! This year we are focusing on the theme: The Weary World Rejoices. Advent gives us a time to practice waiting for the world as-it-should-be, with the hope that it will happen. It does not invite a fake smile or naive understanding of complex issues. Instead it asks us to go deep, and consider what the world could be, to imagine it happening, and gives us room to rejoice, amongst in our weariness that it has not happened.
All four Sundays of Advent will be designed to offer you 60 minutes of focused time. Our goal is for worship to not be another "to-do", but a gift of community, with time to pause.
I appreciate the feedback about Christmas Eve. We are offering Candlelight Christmas Eve Services at 3pm and 7pm. In between worship (4:15-6:45), we'll have games and food: A Christmas Eve Hope Church Hangout!
AND...The Red Cross has asked to have a Blood Drive on Christmas Eve! We are co-hosting with the Prairie Pride Coaltion from noon to 4. Everyone who gives will get a gift from the Red Cross, with some giveaways from Prairie Pride as well! Their goal is 20 units. It's a chance to gift life at Christmas!
All of this will be in your app and advertised on Sundays, too!
See you tomorrow - Jennie
