July 6, 2024 Where Do We Go From Here

Dear Hope,
How many times in your life have you wondered -- what is next? Going back is not an option and whatever you do next will be new. Tomorrow's question is "where do we go from here?" That IS a question we as a faith community have asked more than once! It's a question we face as eras in our lives come to end - from the joy of graduations to the grief of losing a loved one to the loss of a job. We'll consider some spiritual resources for answering this question.
Also, in worship tomorrow, I'll introduce Erik Slingerland. Erik is a certified candidate for ordained ministry and halfway through seminary. And lucky for us, he's in central IL this summer. Anna (our administrative assistant) and I will gone for vacation at the same time, so Erik is going to keep us humming along helping with both pastoral and administrative tasks. Our District Superintendent gave us the green light for Erik to serve one month as Substitute Minister! He was with Anish and I at General Conference as a delegate, too. You will all love him!
Speaking of conferences, there is one more UMC conference to go this summer - jurisdictional conference. This is the Dakotas, MN, IL, Iowa, IN, Ohio, and WI. From very early in the morning July 9 to very early in the morning July 14, Anish and I will be gone to Sioux Falls, SD as jurisdictional delegates. At this conference, we will learn who our new Bishop will be. We'll announce that at church on July 14th.
See you tomorrow! Jennie
P.S. Remember if you are traveling for the long weekend, you can still tune in at 9:30 or 11! If you stream through the app or website, you can be part of the conversation!

Hospitality Meeting Right After Worship Next Sunday
July 14th at Noon
If you've been part of hospitality forever, or would like to join the team, stay for a meeting/training next Sunday.
From a practical perspective, there are new protocols in a new location.
From a personal perspective, what is needed in terms of personal interaction has changed since covid.
Let's gather to talk about it! We want to maintain our radical hospitality!
Youth Ministry Volunteer Needs!
We've had things here and there for Hope's junior and senior high youth over the years - but it is time for us to get consistent and serious about our youth ministry! In order to that, we are going to need volunteers who love youth! If you think you can give once/month - great! If you'd like to do more - wonderful! Once we know, we can work out our academic year schedule.
We are going to offer ministry for our youth at two different times each Sunday:
1. Sunday Mornings 11am - Noon: This will be a discussion-based Sunday morning opportunity in the Gathering Space (think Sunday School...but not boring) Curriculum will be provided.
  1. Sundays 7:30-9:00pm During the Academic Year: Activities, Conversation, Service Projects, etc. (think traditional youth group). We'll build a youth leadership team and grow retreat and trip opportunities out of this one.
We have junior and senior high students ready and waiting to be part of this -- and willing to invite friends!
